Open Studio Day at Matadero Madrid

The Matadero Madrid hosted a new Open Studio Day on 13-14 June 2025 to showcase the work of its resident artists.

Through a series of activities and studio visits, the event featured the work of four artists participating in the six-month visual arts residency programme: Christian Lagata, Álvaro Chior, Amaya Hernández, and Julia Huete. It also highlighted the contributions of the first-quarter residents: Aldo Urbano, Pablo Capitán del Río, Fermín Jiménez Landa, and Clara Sánchez Sala.

A preview of the works heading to the upcoming Pontevedra Biennial was also presented. Novos Valores residents Andrea Dávila and Carlos Fer—part of a new collaboration between the Pontevedra Provincial Council, the Nicole & Walter Leblanc Foundation in Brussels, and Matadero Madrid—were in attendance.

Additionally, residents Lenka Kubelová and Lea Culetto, participants in the international mobility residency program SAiR organized in partnership with Snehta (Athens), MGLC (Ljubljana), and MeetFactory (Prague), were introduced. This residency program is made possible with the support of Creative Europe. All participating artists were accompanied by curators Virginia Torrente and Rafa Barber throughout both these sessions and the duration of their residencies.

The public also had the opportunity to experience the work of the duo Gente que miente, composed of Paz Alberta and Clau, recipients of the music production residency for bands, as well as Sara Martín Terceño, an Art and Education resident.

Accompanied by curator Bani Brusadin, Medialab’s Situated Research residents—Ana Esteve Reig, Maia Gattás Vargas, and the XenoVisual Studies (XVS) Collective—also showcased their work.

Finally, the Association of Cultural Mediators of Madrid (AMECUM) and the artist-supported studio Debajo del Sombrero joined the event.
