Day trip to Eleusina

We organized a short day trip to Eleusina so our guest resident artists could actually be introduced to a certain area near Athens that has a long and really diverse history: from an ancient worship site devoted to Dimiter and Persefoni, where mystic rituals took place up to the Roman period, to a fully industrialized zone with high pollution and sever destruction of the natural landscape during modern times. Contemporary Eleusina though has entered a totally new and fresh era. It was the European Cultural Capital for 2023 and it has be transformed into a tourist friendly suburb of Athens, with lots of restaurants and pedestrian streets by the sea.

(activities: visit to the archaeological site of Eleusina and to the museum, visit to the “ships’ graveyard”, visit to one solo contemporary art project by the Greek artist Stefania Strouza (“Mystery 87/My Sea Journey/My Land Claim”) and one contemporary group exhibition curated by Panos Giannikopoulos (“Μystery 151/ A Rave Down Below”).
